Recently, Founder and CEO of evoke, David Mitson, and Technical Director, Helen Riley, were invited to speak at a safety webinar hosted by Animalweb.
The internal material used to manufacture helmets is called EPS (expanded polystyrene) – a rigid, crushable foam liner designed to absorb and dissipate the energy from an impact.
EPS is single-use and must always be replaced after a fall, no matter how severe that fall or impact may be, the helmet has done its job and is no longer safe to use.
Some helmets may not even have a scratch on the outside, but the internal EPS would have “burst” and compressed. This may not be visible to the naked eye, and there is no “test” or “scan” that can determine the future safety of your helmet.
